What a certification exam covers
Unlike state licensing exams, certifications are issued by federal agencies or national organizations, so the content does not change when you cross a state line. That makes them the cheapest credential to add early in a career and the easiest to keep current.
Some are gatekeepers: EPA Section 608 certification is required before you can purchase or handle regulated refrigerants. Others, like OSHA cards and NCCER credentials, are commonly required by employers or general contractors as a condition of being on site.

- Certification content is stable year over year, so it rewards flashcards and repetition more than code-navigation drills.
